Grief and Loss

While grief is widely recognized in our culture by the death of a close family member, the experience of grief is not necessarily limited to that experience. In terms of grief, what I'm referring to here is a profound loss that goes unrecognized because it is not understood or minimized by those around us. When others are not able to appreciate the magnitude of our loss, it can leave us feeling isolated and at times even ashamed for feeling the way we do.

While certainly not an exhaustive list, some examples of unrecognized grief might be: the loss of a family member through addiction,  a miscarriage or abortion, a body that doesn't look or act the same as it did before illness, the loss of a pet, the inability to bear your own child, or even the loss of a 'typical' child for parents who discover that their child has developmental delays.

People can also experience unacknowledged grief when a loved one has Alzheimers disease, following a brain injury, and even after a divorce. In these circumstances the person may still be physically available, but you can no longer connect to them the way you used to.

Any loss can irrevocably change your path and take you from the life you thought you were meant to live. I can understand the complexity of your grief, decrease feelings of loneliness, validate your pain, and help you heal.

Parenting A Child with Special Needs

As a parent of a child with special needs, you might be feeling like you have nobody to turn to, nobody who understands your struggle and you might even be feeling guilty for feeling this way. After all, it's your child who is suffering not you. The truth is that parents suffer alongside their children. When your child hurts, you hurt and you have every right to speak to that pain and have someone support you through it.

I have been working with families and individuals with special needs since 2004. I understand the impact that a child with special needs can have on the whole family.

With a particular passion for this area of my work, I would be honoured to walk along side you in this journey and help restore a sense of hope and happiness for you and your family.

Whether you are waiting for your name to come up off a waitlist or whether you are searching for next steps. Lets talk about what you can do now to help yourself and the wonderful child you know and love.

Tomatis® Sound Therapy

Tomatis® sound therapy is a safe and effective way to restore health and wellness in both children and adults. As a level 2 practitioner, I am able to assess your listening ability and provide you with this cutting edge technique which takes advantage of neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity is a term that refers to the fact that our brains can change at any age. Which is to say, children with learning difficulties are not restricted to the abilities they are born with and people who have sustained injury to the brain through physical or emotional experiences can build new pathways and recover. To learn more about this method check for more information or simply click the button below to find out more.
